The emergence of new technologies has drastically transformed the way we communicate. In the event of a crisis, we might not necessarily have a computer in front of us, but we will most likely have a mobile phone.
Keep emergency information at your fingertips by downloading the “United Nations Emergency Notification” smart phone and tablet application for free through the Apple Store and Google Play.
This application enables users to receive emergency notifications from the UNHQ Emergency Information System, as well as access emergency preparedness resources, mobile learning solutions, and phone contacts for the UN Department of Safety and Security, the Medical Services Division and emergency responders in New York City.
The application is accessible on both iOS and Android platforms. Whilst this initiative is currently on pilot implementation for New York Headquarters, the application has the capacity to scale up for emergency notification messaging for other UN locations.
The UN Alerts application was developed by OHRM’s Emergency Preparedness and Support Team (EPST), with technical support from the IT Learning Advisory Team.
