Today is a very important day: 8 March is International Women’s Day. It is a day for joy, solidarity, but also for reflection.
This year’s focus is “Women in the Changing World of Work: Planet 50-50 by 2030“.
UN Women Executive Director, Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka sets out an inspiring vision: “We want to construct a different world of work for women. As they grow up, girls must be exposed to a broad range of careers, and encouraged to make choices that lead beyond the traditional service and care options to jobs in industry, art, public service, modern agriculture and science“.
May the International Women’s Day inspire each and all of us to bring about a world without prejudice, to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment where women can have the same opportunities as men, so we all rejoice in a more just and joyful planet.
